Everyone’s A Critic at On The Boards

Co-conceived, created and produced this community-engaged, participatory performance projet commissioned by Seattle’s On the Boards.

Working closely with On The Boards between September 2012 and March 2013 we identified seven members of the local arts community – each representing a different segment of the ecology – and invited them to respond to a work in the On The Boards TV catalogue. We spent a week in residence working with respondents to develop their presentations, culminating in an evening of lecture/performances followed by community discourse.

Respondents included critics (The Stranger’s Brendan Kiley and independent critic Jose Amador), artist/administrators (Tonya Lockyer from Velocity Dance Center and Matt Richter), a long-time subscriber (Serge Gart), a young audience member and aspiring writer from the TeenTix program and press corps (18 year old Olivia Menzer) and Tommer Peterson, deputy director of Grantmakers in the Arts.
